Topophilia

So I fell in love with Florida then,
For the way that it felt on my skin:
A warm, humid breeze loosens my knees
As I left my Gameboy in my luggage and dove into Old Town,

Haunted Houses, joke shops, and every other strange new thing a kid who only had seen the Bronx could see, down every alley and street,
We slid down a slide that went in between buildings,
Cousins and friends of family treat us like prized, long lost siblings,

We reconnect and meet new and old loved ones,
Amidst trips to Universal Studios and Bayside
Pool or beach in the morning, and the boardwalk and hotel room at night,

The hazy foggy humidity every evening just feels right,
I fell in love with Florida then, in the summer of ’99. – RSM
