Raindrops on a Pond – A Sonnet

Sometimes I would walk to a certain pond in a park not far away,
mainly cuz it felt like a good chill spot, and geese would hang out nearby,
but it was on the rainy days I would sit under cover of trees, and even longer I would stay,
watching raindrops hit the pond – each a unique, speeding water comet – exploding at the surface, living until it dies.

A pond’s water ripples concentrically, with the impact of each raindrop.
The ripples are felt eventually throughout.
Your actions push your life forward – no dams, no stoppers, no drains stop,
for no matter how faint the ripples we make, the impact is like an echo that comes from a shout.

The water we touch, no matter where it stands,
is never the same before contact is made,
our actions build the life we hold in our hands
and like water in a pond, our lives move differently each day.

Our lives are vibrations, just like bullets of water turned into quickly moving, tiny waves,
We’re all raindrops crashing into a pond, with our own life’s rippling circles to maintain. – RSM

A Comfortable Silence

(Written November 6, 2017)

Going home via subway after a long day.

Energy depleted, memory hazy,

but its quite quiet, nothing crazy,

Just a hum of the tracks we’re gliding on,

and the weight of the world coming off our shoulders.

A Fall Sunday morning, and rain is falling, a calm, unmatched.

A colorless, weightless, shapeless onslaught, cool to the touch;

the sky is opaque, and I feel as each rain drop is a part of me. – RSM

Rain Hails And Love Reigns

The rain hails in figurative and literal terms,

a kamikaze attack in the billions, as the streets get cloud bombed

and all the birds take a break from singing their love songs,

Lovers-no-more wonder where they went wrong,

Seeing only through their rear view mirror,

and their most recent turn, instead of the road ahead.

As the rain falls, so do the lights,

and lovers find themselves in each other’s arms

while getting lost in each other’s eyes.

The rain only hails to lovers on its way to the stage,

playing a consistent, smooth tone during its performance.

No matter how deep, how wondrous, how intense,

the rain gently caresses the ears of listeners,

sending emotion through the air with every drop.

All who hear and see the sky so grey and unclear

perceive the feelings of raindrops as they do:

The stillness of peace, a gentle sadness,

a melancholy holiday, ruined by a dark cloud’s madness.

Emotional wifi, these raindrops are.

With each seemingly insignificant stream of precipiation,

we are connected to nature, and feel our moods accented

as goosebumps rise on our skin, and a feeling of cool wetness settles

the water from above refracts our feelings

not unlike a glass of water, or a pond below refracts light.

Lovers can’t be starcrossed with dark clouds in the sky.

Real love has the patience to see the storm through. – RSM
